Claude Code fixes game copyright refusal rule in 2.1.317: naming a game now works
apples_jimmy · x · 2026-11-04
Anthropic's Addy Osmani explains why Claude Code was refusing some game projects: a short rule added to the Opus 5.5 prompt to steer it away from recreating specific existing games was also triggering when users merely referenced a game to describe mechanics.
Updated in version 2.1.317: you can now name a game to describe what you want, and Claude will build an original game in that genre. If you ask for a direct copy, it will offer something similar instead.
Anthropic says it wants Claude to be helpful for original work while protecting users' creations from being copied via Claude, and invites feedback on false refusals.
