OpenAI and Anthropic hunt for 20-30 MW compute deals in UK and Nordics to serve inference
demian_ai · x · 2026-09-18
Per CNBC, Anthropic has explored 20–30 MW compute deals in the UK and Nordics, while OpenAI has looked at similar smaller deployments in the Nordics, with parallel talks in the US. These clusters complement multi-hundred-MW and gigawatt projects by coming online sooner. The author's read: compute buyers purchase two things — processing capacity and the ability to start using it at a particular time. Inference fleets can run as independent model copies spread across sites, unlike tightly coupled training runs, making these smaller distributed sites economically useful.
