Overfit on purpose: patient-specific X-ray model adapts in 5 minutes via xvr
bravo_abad · x · 2026-09-18
xvr flips the usual goal of generalization: for image-guided procedures, where live 2D X-rays must align with preoperative 3D scans, it turns the patient's own 3D scan into the training set.
- A physics-based renderer generates synthetic X-rays from known viewpoints
- A pretrained network is fine-tuned to that specific patient — no labeled clinical images needed
- The foundation model was pretrained across 2,245 CT/MR volumes covering the whole body; adaptation for a new patient takes 5 minutes
A clever demonstration that deliberate specialization beats scarce labeled data.
