Anthropic's server-side rule reignites the case for owning open models over renting AI
alex_verem · x · 2026-11-02
Alex Verem argues against renting intelligence from AI labs: you pay monthly, but the rules can change anytime — Anthropic just pushed a server-side rule blocking Claude from recreating existing games, and OpenAI retired GPT-4o after people built their workflows around it. A banned account means losing your entire workflow.
His alternative: download an open model, keep the version you like, run it offline, keep files on disk, and lock in the same price for next year. His takeaway — stop renting your AI and own one.
