Google partnered with Speakeasy to build the new GenAI SDKs for its Interactions, Agents, and Webhooks APIs — and to open-source Speakeasy's entire OpenAPI code generation suite (SDKs, agent CLIs, MCP servers).
- In May 2026, right before Google I/O and the Interactions API GA, the proprietary SDK generator Google relied on was acquired and abruptly shut down, exposing unacceptable platform risk
- Google migrated its client libraries in place without breaking changes, with open-sourcing the generator as a core commitment
- The argument: if the industry standardizes on OpenAPI, the tooling that compiles specs into client libraries, CLIs, and agent tools should be open infrastructure
