10-year engineer hunts for a Claude Code harness to survive auto-compact context loss

A software engineer with 10 years of experience, a year into using Claude Code, says the missing piece is persistent project context. Markdown todo files get mangled, asking Claude to keep claude.md updated is a maintenance burden, and auto-compact at his 300k token ceiling forces him to re-explain the project, the day's work, and recent changes every time. He rules out Jira and paid GitHub kanban (paying for his own project data feels wrong) and rate-limited third-party MCP servers, and kanban only fixes the todo problem anyway. He's looking for a harness that carries full project context across new sessions, reboots, and compactions.
