OpenAI and Anthropic earn 10x more revenue than all Chinese AI models combined

Per Rhodium research (via CNBC), OpenAI runs at roughly $40B ARR and Anthropic at $65B, while ByteDance's large-model business is about $4B and Alibaba's Bailian MaaS around $2.3–2.4B — OpenAI and Anthropic together earn 10x more than all Chinese AI models combined.
The main reason: Chinese models are mostly open source. They logged over 2B Hugging Face downloads in 2025, about 41% of the planet's total, gaining adoption but little direct revenue.
