Google Home opens MCP server early access, sparking debate on smart-home agent permissions

Google has opened early access to an MCP server for Google Home, letting third-party agents control smart-home devices and access home event history.
The poster argues this is a meaningful step for MCP: agent use cases so far center on code, email, calendars, browsers and SaaS — smart-home access means agents now affect the physical environment. Use cases include checking whether anything was left on, building dynamic automations, summarizing camera events, and context-aware home adjustment.
The key question is the permission model once a wrong tool call has physical consequences. The author would allow lights, temperature and read-only history long before locks, alarms or anything safety-critical, and asks where the community would draw the line.
