A resurfaced 2015 clip shows Ilya Sutskever, then a Tesla shareholder, asking Elon Musk about self-driving — the same year Musk helped recruit him from Google to co-found OpenAI. Per the new book The Infinity Machine, when the Transformer paper dropped in 2017, Ilya immediately urged everyone to drop everything and work on it, a bet that became GPT and ChatGPT.
