Palantir's $4M Average Contract Tops SaaS: Anthropic Engineer Explains the FDE Playbook

Kevin Bai, an Anthropic Applied AI engineer (ex-Rippling founding FDE, ex-Palantir), gave an FDE 101 talk on the Forward Deployed Engineer role, with a Chinese-subtitled version shared by dotey.
- Key numbers: by average contract value among public SaaS companies, Palantir leads at $4M, followed by ServiceNow at $1.2M and Workday at $0.6M — no one else tops $0.5M. Palantir achieved this with a few thousand staff, thanks to the FDE model.
- The problem FDEs solve: Foundry is a high-bar application-building platform, but buyers are non-technical executives in oil, consumer goods and other industries — requiring engineers who pair technical depth with customer-domain fluency.
