OpenAI Capabilities Researcher Dan Selsam Publishes Personal Statement on AI Risk
PeterBowdenLive · x · 2026-09-17
Dan Kokotajlo (AI 2027) shared a public personal statement on AI risk by Dan Selsam, a current OpenAI capabilities researcher since 2022 and formerly his boss.
Selsam outlines 15+ years in AI: early probabilistic programming work at MIT, early development of the Lean Theorem Prover at Microsoft Research, PhD work at Stanford demonstrating early neural networks learning to reason, and nearly five years at OpenAI pioneering chain-of-thought optimization. Owain Evans and others urged reading it in full—an open, systematic AI-risk statement from a serving frontier-lab capabilities researcher is rare.
