CPAL 2027 set for Tokyo: Yi Ma announces 4th Conference on Parsimony and Learning

Yi Ma announced that the 4th CPAL (Conference on Parsimony and Learning) will be held March 23–26, 2027 at Hitotsubashi Hall, Tokyo.
- The conference focuses on parsimonious, low-dimensional structures across machine learning, signal processing, and optimization, covering theory, algorithms, applications, hardware, and systems.
- Scope includes work on foundation, generative, multimodal, and agentic models where a parsimony principle (sparsity, low rank, symmetry, modularity, compressibility) is explicit; acceptance does not require a new SOTA.
- Two tracks: Proceedings Track (published in PMLR) and a non-archival Recent Spotlight Track.
- Key dates: abstract registration Nov 23, 2026; paper deadline Dec 5, 2026; Spotlight deadline Jan 18, 2027 (all AoE).
- Keynotes include Yuejie Chi (Yale), Kenji Fukumizu (ISM), and Yew-Soon Ong (NTU & ASTAR).
Ma quipped that amid chaotic mega AI conferences, a small high-quality one is a rare gem — plus cherry blossoms in Tokyo.
