AI cyber-threat hype serves labs' commercial interests, researcher argues: 'almost no new threats'

Gerard Sans argues that AI labs stoking cybersecurity fears while selling security products are driven by profit pressure, not goodwill — a dynamic distorting every vertical from math to software. Replying to security researcher Chris Rohlf, he contends there are almost no genuinely new threats: AI doesn't grant new expertise or judgment, it only lowers the cost of accessing information already on the internet, and cybercrime tooling has existed for decades. Alarmism, he says, only benefits the cyber-security business.
