Reach to cut 220 more editorial jobs as AI summaries eat traffic

Reach, publisher of the Mirror and Express, will cut 220 more editorial jobs as readers shift to AI-generated summaries. It follows 300+ cuts in September. The company cites a "mammoth shift" in audience behavior: Google-referred traffic fell 46% year-on-year as Google's AI Mode and AI Overviews reduce click-throughs. Reach is also closing three online-only brands (KentLive, AberdeenLive, GalwayBeo) while adding 60 editorial roles to drive digital revenue growth.
