The consumer version of ByteDance's Doubao phone assistant is now shipping on the Nubia NaviX Ultra, priced ¥5,999 (12+512GB, ¥5,499 after subsidy) up to ¥7,499 (16GB+1TB). Hardware: flat bezel-equal display, triple camera, 7,100mAh battery, 200MP main sensor, plus an orange AI key.
Hands-on highlights:
- Fingerprint-auth AI key: strangers can ask general questions on the lock screen, but personal info or device operations trigger fingerprint verification — refusal if it fails; continuous conversation also added
- Long-horizon tasks: the assistant completed the full company Feishu expense-reimbursement flow in one go; new tasks can queue or jump the line (jumping kills the prior task)
- Memory & shortcuts: remembers preferences (buy my usual cat food, deliver home) and saves completed workflows as one-shot shortcuts; the author's video team automated saving AI clips + prompts into a Feishu base and notifying colleagues
- Screen understanding: edit docs directly from the page you're browsing; camera gets AI editing and composition assist, calls/recordings feed Feishu Minutes
Limits: metered free quota for on-device tasks; ecosystem mostly limited to system/ZTE apps, ByteDance apps and some partners. A new SAEP screen-automation declaration protocol with 30-day rule transparency lets third-party apps opt in or out of GUI control.
