Open-source video editor lets Claude drive itself via MCP to produce a promo video in 1 hour
_lolcat_ · reddit · 2026-09-16
The creator of CutWire Drift, an open-source video editor designed from the ground up for agents, showed Claude editing a promo video about the editor using the editor itself. Drift ships a full MCP exposing every aspect of the editor, plus built-in local AI features (whisper, SAM2) for subtitles and segmentation.
The workflow:
- Connected Drift's MCP to Claude Code on a Claude Pro subscription running Opus 5 at high effort
- One plan-mode prompt: explore the editor's features, write a script, spawn sub-agents to find free stock footage and music, then let another agent do the edit; voiceover via Fish Audio API, with /frontend-design and /apple-design skills guiding typography and animation
- Finished in about 1 hour including research, without hitting the session limit
The author only gave the initial prompt and answered Claude's questions—no feedback rounds, no manual edits. The video is exactly what Claude produced.
