Per The Guardian, Anthropic has signed to lease its first Australian datacentre at the proposed Western Downs Digital Park near Dalby, western Queensland, built by Singapore-based Zerra DC, connecting to the existing Braemar power station, opening next year, with a reported value of $31.9bn.

Queensland Premier David Crisafulli announced the deal in parliament, calling it a major vote of confidence. Notably, Queensland and the Northern Territory rejected a Commonwealth push in July to require renewable energy for new AI datacentres, winning a carve-out to use the state's coal generators.
