Paper alpha v2.5.2: a notebook app where AI challenges your thinking instead of doing it

Tight-Instruction-17 · reddit · 2026-09-16

A developer released alpha v2.5.2 of Paper, an AI notebook built on a simple premise: you do the thinking, the AI helps you think further.

The original insight was that LLMs drift toward your framing even when asked to play devil's advocate, and that prompt-answer loops turn thinking into consumption. The redesign moves beyond 'AI disagrees with you': sometimes a question, a spotted contradiction, or a surfaced tradeoff is more useful than pushback.

The new version is built around continuing your own thinking — you can actively work through suggestions, keep them as your document evolves, then resolve or reject them. Checkpoints and history now preserve how your thinking changed over time.

A public test build is available on Vercel.
