Google Cloud API Gateway now acts as a remote MCP server for existing REST APIs

Google Cloud's API Gateway (Public Preview) can now act as a remote MCP server, exposing existing REST APIs to LLMs and agents without backend rewrites.
- Works as a proxy, translating MCP JSON-RPC messages into standard HTTP REST requests
- MCP config derived directly from OpenAPI 3.x specs via custom extensions
- Supports initialize, tools/list, tools/call lifecycle methods
- Limitations: no Resources/Prompts, no stdio transport, no OpenAPI 2.0
A low-friction path for teams with existing REST APIs to join the agent ecosystem.
