TotalEnergies and Mistral strike €100M+ AI deal to build frontier models for oil exploration

TotalEnergies has announced a three-year partnership with Mistral worth over €100 million to develop a new generation of frontier AI models for geoscience exploration and reservoir engineering. The two companies will create a joint scientific lab, combining nearly 10 petabytes of TotalEnergies data and close to a century of geoscience expertise with agentic AI to help experts analyze complex data, generate exploration scenarios, and extend the life of existing projects. The deal is also framed as backing a strong European digital ecosystem.
