Scholars refuse AI lab jobs, warning independent AI eval experts are too scarce

Scholar Kevin Frazier highlights a DC policy problem: reforms depend on independent experts who are hard to find. He and Bharat Chandar (among others) have declined AI lab jobs to preserve independence — "we can't build an AI eval ecosystem if some don't stay outside." Stanford's Rishi Bommasani amplified the point.
