Ex-Google Safety Researcher Says He Gave Up $1M by Quitting Over Distrust of AI Companies

AI safety researcher TurnTrout made a striking personal statement in an X debate: "I don't trust AI companies. I don't trust them so much that I quit Google and gave up $1M opportunity to talk about how much I don't trust Google."
This came right after he argued frontier companies would be uniquely harmed by frontier-pacing regulation. Together, it's a public no-confidence vote on AI companies' safety commitments from a former frontier-lab insider.
