ivory_tang · x · 2026-09-16
Podcast host Ivory Tang shared a clip in which Pablo Palafox, CEO of HappyRobot ($1.2B), who built the forward-deployed engineer (FDE) function from zero, answers what an SE needs to become an FDE.
His answer: not more technical skill, but listening, knowing when to push back, and redesigning the system away from what was originally scoped. FDEs also need to be in the room at initial scoping, across pre- and post-sales — a seat most orgs never give them.
