OpenAI global policy chief Chris Lehane confirmed the company has been working with rivals Anthropic and Google DeepMind on AI safety for weeks, as first reported by Bloomberg. Lehane was in Washington working with U.S. lawmakers on catastrophic AI risks. The revelation follows Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei's essay calling for the industry to slow frontier AI; Altman, Hassabis and Musk backed the call, with Altman saying OpenAI would embed third-party evaluators, while noting such talks could raise antitrust concerns.
