Book review: OpenAI has become everything it was founded to fear about DeepMind

Reading Karen Hao's Empire of AI, the author highlights an irony: OpenAI was founded to counter the supposed evil of DeepMind and Demis Hassabis, yet today OpenAI and Anthropic have virtually become everything they feared.
Meanwhile DeepMind — despite its own flaws — is doing solid AI+science work and is the least aggressive of the three major labs. The book offers an excellent timeline and behind-the-scenes account of OpenAI's founding and rise.
