WSJ reports OpenAI has acquired smartphone camera startup Glass Imaging for over $300M.
- Its core product, GlassAI, replaces parts of the traditional image-signal-processing pipeline with camera-specific neural networks trained on RAW sensor data.
- These networks reverse lens aberrations, sensor noise and crosstalk before rendering, letting compact camera modules recover more usable detail.
- The deal comes as OpenAI and Jony Ive push into consumer hardware: the io team is already in-house, though Glass's role remains undisclosed.
