a16z partners: 10-20M people drive $150-200B in token spend, and AI workspaces will eat the browser

Notes from an a16z session with Anish Acharya and Josh Elman:
- Three economic miracles: beyond zero-marginal-cost software distribution, coding went from the world's most precious asset to among the cheapest, and agents deliver zero-marginal-cost digital labor.
- Being on the exponential: just 10-20M people account for $150-200B of token spend; some top companies' token spend exceeds payroll. Still early.
- AI workspaces (ChatGPT, Claude desktop) will subsume the browser — Chrome is just the middle layer.
- AI-native test: if the model gets 2x better, do customers get 2x value? If you're sad the model improved, you're on the wrong side.
- "I'd rather have AI be my boss": Acharya's agent books a 30-min weekly block to pick someone to reconnect with.
- Individual 10x productivity doesn't mean 10x team productivity.
- Hard companies are easier to start than easy ones — they're all hard, and hard is interesting.
