The author argues the AI Engineer role has become "10 AI/DS jobs wearing a hoodie": Python, SQL, ML/DL, LLMs and prompting, RAG, MLOps, data engineering, system design, cloud, and deployment.
The real shift isn't mastering everything but understanding how the pieces connect — traditional DS was Data → Model → Prediction, while AI engineering is Data → Models → LLMs → Tools → Agents → APIs → Infrastructure → Product. You're building a system that does work, which is good news for data scientists who already have much of the foundation.
