Lina Khan: existing laws cover dangerous AI; Nvidia-HF deal may suppress lawsuits
dhadfieldmenell · x · 2026-09-14
Former FTC chair Lina Khan argues enforcers already have authority to charge companies and CEOs for releasing dangerous, unvetted, or defective AI products — there is no AI exemption from existing laws, and shipping flawed AI tools without safeguards can be an "unfair or deceptive" practice under the FTC Act. She and the resharing author also flag that with Nvidia's acquisition of Hugging Face, a liability suit against OpenAI over the HF incident is unlikely, given Nvidia's incentive to see OpenAI race ahead — renewing antitrust scrutiny of Nvidia.
