@DavidRBellamy, who claims to be among the very few to have both trained a frontier LLM and designed and synthesized custom viruses with his own hands, argues that takes on AI killing us all by creating dangerous viruses are "total bogus."
Quoting him, @jrkelly — who runs an API-driven automated biolab at Ginkgo — agrees that AI killing us with viruses is far from a real risk, noting there are many physical checkpoints that can be easily implemented to prevent dangerous biological work.
