IEEE BITS review: diffusion models enable near-optimal rate-distortion-realism generative compression
StephanMandt · x · 2026-09-14
A new IEEE BITS review article, led by Yibo Yang from Stephan Mandt's group, surveys generative compression: instead of transmitting all image detail, diffusion models can reconstruct it at the decoder, achieving near-optimal rate-distortion-realism tradeoffs.
