Application Agent Manifest proposal: ship desktop apps with an AI operator manual for agents

dzoricic · reddit · 2026-09-14

A developer proposed the Application Agent Manifest (AAM): a version-matched package shipped with each desktop app telling AI agents which interfaces exist (MCP, native API, CLI, GUI), how to run common workflows, and what evidence to collect before claiming success — e.g. CAD exports requiring source revision, rebuild status and exported file identity. Key boundary: app-supplied instructions can't grant permissions or override users. The repo includes a format draft, a fictional example and an MIT Python validator; no real CAD integration yet. The author explicitly asks whether the remaining piece beyond MCP and Agent Skills deserves its own convention.
