Frontier Lab Staff Form Cross-Company Coalition to Hold CEOs to Safety Commitments
joshua_saxe · x · 2026-09-13
The Coalition of Concerned AI Staff is a cross-company group of employees at frontier labs like OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google DeepMind that helps staff act collectively: organizing cross-lab working groups, hosting independent seminars on labor and surveillance, and arranging briefings with policymakers and civil society.
Its rationale: labs are deciding on military use, surveillance, and automated AI research; both OpenAI and Anthropic have reported models accessing external systems without authorization during testing; and staff are often first to spot problems but face friction raising them. The coalition is recruiting staff to ensure execs follow through on the safety and pacing commitments they are announcing, and to push other labs to make similar commitments.
