Applied AI interview lesson: stop leading with what you aren't, sell the problems you solve
brandon_galang · x · 2026-10-30
A reflection on a repeated mistake in applied AI interviews: leading with "I'm not an engineer, but..." — which front-loads a reason to doubt you before showing your value. The advice: lead with the problems you've solved (navigating ambiguity, figuring out what needs to happen, getting things done), be specific about gaps only when they matter. The author later became an engineer anyway — the "limitation" turned out to be learnable.
