Cloudflare CEO: One agent per knowledge worker would need 40x the world's CPUs

Cloudflare CEO Matthew Prince did the math: if every knowledge worker on Earth ran even one agent in a container — which he calls a conservative assumption, since most will run more — the CPU demand alone would be 40x today's capacity, before counting GPUs at all.

The bottleneck is containers themselves: they require shipping a full OS and toolchain, an assumption underlying the entire hyperscale and mobile world. Agent-era workloads may force a fundamental rethink of compute supply and lightweight runtimes.
