Twenty-five Fields Medalists—including Terence Tao, Peter Scholze, June Huh, Maryna Viazovska, Martin Hairer and Cedric Villani—signed the September 11 declaration 'A Severe Misalignment of AI in Mathematics.' Their warning: solving more problems is not the same as advancing understanding, and measuring AI's contribution to math by problem-solving alone is a serious misalignment.
