Merzmensch builds AI Indie Explorer to dig up obscure Japanese indie bands beyond playlist defaults
Merzmensch · x · 2026-09-12
Merzmensch is building Indie Explorer, a hobby project for exploring Japan's sprawling indie scene (shoegaze, noise, dreamcore, etc.). His observation: human-curated playlists overwhelmingly feature well-known bands, even among indie artists, while YT Music's algorithm is too random.
The tool combines the model's own knowledge (admittedly still hallucinatory) with online search to generate mixtape-style recommendations for a chosen band.
