25 Fields Medalists warn of AI-math community misalignment; Intellect and agency are inseparable

Twenty-five Fields Medal winners issued a joint declaration warning of what they see as a severe misalignment between AI companies and the mathematics community. Quoting it, Ruxandra Teslo argues that outsourcing intellectual work to machines while keeping human 'agency' is a fundamental mistake: domain mastery and agency are inextricably linked in humans, and depleting the institutions that cultivate intellect would leave no human in charge within a generation or two.
