ChatGPT Desktop on Debian 13 crashes at startup with renderer TypeError despite app-server connecting
fslurrehman · ghdev · 2026-09-11
- A paid user reports the official ChatGPT Desktop Linux package (26.908.31748, Debian 13/trixie) fails at startup with "ChatGPT hit a snag".
- Logs show the bundled Codex app-server (0.154.0-alpha.6.1) handshakes and reaches connected, but the Electron/React renderer then throws TypeError: n is not a function, fails route prefetch, and matches a leaf route with no element, rendering an empty page.
- The web version works fine on the same machine and account, isolating the bug to the desktop app. Issue openai/codex #44785 has 7 comments so far.
