Windows September 8 update breaks Claude Desktop workspace file access; Claude Code unaffected

Users report Claude Desktop failing with 'Failed to start Claude's workspace - unrecoverable error,' unable to mount the C: drive; reboots and reinstalls don't help. Anthropic says a Windows update released September 8 prevents the workspace from reaching local files and the issue is being tracked. Chats and files are safe, and Claude Code is unaffected.
