Wharton professor Ethan Mollick argues that setting aside existential-risk policy, even if AI development stopped today with current models, improving harnesses and spreading adoption would still drive at least a decade of roiling change across work, education, and social life.
In a follow-up he adds that navigating this will also require substantial careful policy and management — shifting the debate from whether AI goes out of control to whether society can absorb the capabilities we already have.
