DeepLearning.AI maps the core skills for steering coding agents in its AI engineering framework
DeepLearningAI · x · 2026-09-10
DeepLearning.AI released Pillar 3 of its AI Engineering Skills Map: Using Coding Agents, reflecting the shift from writing raw code to defining specs, designing architecture, and evaluating agent output.
Three core skill areas: directing the workflow (balancing human oversight and agent autonomy across research, planning, architecture, and task breakdown); enabling agent autonomy (choosing autonomy levels, managing evolving context, orchestrating parallel runs while limiting damage risk); and reviewing the work (automated tests, agentic code review, LLM-as-a-judge, plus production monitoring and incident management).
