OpenAI plans ~$1T compute spend; expert sees it fueling AGI, not inference

Prediction market Kalshi reports OpenAI plans to spend nearly $1 trillion on compute over the next five years. Commenting on the news, generative AI commentator Nina Schick argued that compute will not spread across inference for the masses but instead concentrate between two labs, increasingly directed at developing AGI rather than serving everyday inference workloads.
