Enactic founder exits after 3 years, leaving behind widely adopted open-source OpenArm project

After three years, the founder of Enactic — a humanoid robotics startup that began as a three-person research unit — is stepping away from the company.
The team's flagship output was OpenArm, developed with researchers and engineers gathered in Tokyo and open-sourced in July 2025. It spread far beyond expectations: teams at NVIDIA, Hugging Face, RLWRLD and others built on it, and the community grew larger than the original group.
The author reflects on how hard spin-outs are: once momentum built, the questions shifted to growth speed, outside capital, and independence — decisions that ultimately led to his departure.
