OpenAI announced a proposed solution to the Navier-Stokes Millennium Prize Problem — whether smooth three-dimensional fluid motion can break down, unresolved for roughly 90 years. The proof was produced by a group of agents running on an OpenAI next-generation model described as significantly more capable than GPT-6 Astra.
Sam Altman boosted the project lead's account of sleepless nights on setup, infra and runs, crediting mathematicians Levent Alpöge and Tristan Buckmaster for foundational work, and quoting Dario's "country of geniuses in a datacenter." Altman added he wishes the announcement had gone without the drama, which distracts from the mathematics and the science.
