OpenAI Says 10,000 Agents Cracked the Navier-Stokes Millennium Problem in 88 Hours

OpenAI announced that an internal model group produced a resolution to the Navier–Stokes Millennium Prize Problem—unresolved for 90 years—in about 88 hours, using roughly 10,000 coordinating agents under strict safeguards including monitoring and isolation.
Research lead Alex Wei added two key points: the real headline is an ongoing training run showing unprecedented estimated performance on a set of open math problems, and settling Navier-Stokes required scaling test-time compute "all the way up" on top of that model. OpenAI describes the model as a step-function improvement on many benchmarks, with training still ongoing.
