Independent Researcher Gets GPT-6 Astra to Beat Portal for $600 in Tokens

An independent AI researcher forced the new GPT-6 Astra to complete Portal, burning nearly $600 worth of tokens over 24 hours — reduced to just two hours once the "pause (thinking)" step was removed. The project is open-sourced via @cozyblazex.
Yacine (yacinelearning) quips that the model shines in complex game environments but freaks out in an unseen 3D maze, "like we are asking it to cure cancer over and over again," and adds that its reaction looks like literally giving up on the task out of pure dread.
