Skills explained: a manual for agents covering only what the model doesn't know

dotey · x · 2026-09-08

dotey offers a mental model for agent Skills: a Skill is essentially a manual for the agent, and it only needs to cover what the model doesn't already know. Execution is handled by tools (scripts, CLIs, apps) that the model calls directly. In other words, Skills bridge the gap when a model can't use a specific tool or workflow efficiently on its own.
