Dev calls on OpenAI and Anthropic to donate compute to rewrite C libraries in Rust

cramforce · x · 2026-09-08

Engineer cramforce has publicly appealed to OpenAI and Anthropic to donate tokens and "meat proxies" to systematically rewrite commonly used C-based libraries — image/video codecs, database drivers, and more — in memory-safe languages like Rust.

His argument: an "absolute tsunami" of memory-safety vulnerabilities is being discovered and manual patching can't keep up. With AI's code generation capability, large-scale automated migration of legacy C code is feasible, and the labs should sponsor it as security infrastructure.
