Matt Clifford, founding chair of the UK's ARIA (Advanced Research and Invention Agency), has stepped down after completing his first four-year term, saying his new role at Anthropic shouldn't become a distraction from ARIA's work.
Clifford called ARIA one of the things that makes him most optimistic about Britain, citing its portfolio across neurotech, climate science and life sciences.
Colleague ilangur credited Clifford as the catalyst without whom ARIA "would simply not have taken off."
